About Us

Who We Are

Riding Rwanda is led by founder Mike Jones and supported by a passionate team of operations experts and motorcycle travel specialists. Together, we manage every aspect of your journey— from trip planning and logistics to providing bikes and on-the-ground support—ensuring a seamless, unforgettable experience.

Our Rwanda trips combine thrilling on- and off-road experiences. You’ll ride through bustling Rwandan streets, navigate remote hill trails, cross rivers, and ascend into lush rainforests— all while soaking in breathtaking scenery at every turn.

It is something of an understatement to say that Rwanda has a chequered history.

Depending on their age, people either know about it because of the Genocide of 1994, or as the country where the UK government was planning to send refugees. There are also the Arsenal Football supporters who know of it from the Club’s “visit Rwanda” sponsorship emblazoned on the sleeve of their player’s kit.

When you speak to people about Rwanda, very few know where it is, often not even knowing that it’s in Africa.  It has a tempestuous history from being a German colony before the First World War, following which it became a Belgian colony.  Independence was granted in the early 60’s and then the country seemed to be in a continual on and off state of civil dispute culminating in the Genocide against the Tutsi’s in 1994.  Briefly, in 10 weeks from the start of April 1994, 1,000,000 people were massacred.  Clearly, it scarred the country. Those scars remain and 2024 was the 30th year of remembrance.

Rwanda is a developing Country in Central/East Africa, just South of the Equator, it shares its border with Uganda, in the north, Tanzania in the east, Burundi in the south and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west. At its lowest point it is 950metres above sea level, in comparison the peak of the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike, is 978metres. Rwanda is described as the ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’.

The climate is tropical but tends not to become excessively hot due to its altitude. It is a mainly rural country, which lends itself well to a motorcycle adventure. Rwanda in itself is remote and our adventure explores the remote part of it.

Going off the beaten track, riding in remote areas and experiencing the heart and culture of Rwanda. Ride with us for a motorcycle adventure that will create a lifetime of memories.

Join one of our 2025 or 2026 expeditions touring the Congo Nile Trail from start to end where you will experience spectacular off road riding through Rwanda.

A wonderful opportunity to explore a new country, relish genuine adventure and experience a little and see for yourself the daily lives of the Rwandan people living and working in the remote villages that are situated along the route.

Our in-country guide enables us to share the language and involve us in the culture to much more depth than just being tourists.
The Congo Nile Trail runs the length of the Country from North to South virtually following the shores of Lake Kivu.

Embrace a magical ride through the Nyungwe rainforest where the views around every corner, and there are a lot of corners, are incredible. This is a road that you really need to ride to absorb the majesty of the landscape and then turn around and savour the views in the other direction, and then turn back and ride the road!

Our excursions aren’t for riders who want to race along as fast as possible, as this would truly miss the point of the trip, but to experience the wonder that is Rwanda.
Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali, is amongst the fastest growing cities in Africa. A bustling vibrant city full of life which consistently ranks as one of the safest in Africa.
Kigali is a wonderful place to start our motorbike expedition.

A journey that takes you through the madness of the roads of a bustling city, following the main roads northwards up into the hills where you head for the tranquillity of the tracks.
